Habits and Discipline

Best habits and discipline books summarized in 15 minutes

Much of what we do each day happens on autopilot. The books in this selection explain how habits form and what each author proposes for changing the ones you do not want. Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg are the best known. Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg works with very small steps.

A second group covers willpower and self-control: Willpower by Roy F. Baumeister and John Tierney, The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal and The Marshmallow Test by Walter Mischel. They rest on research, and the summaries show what each author concluded.

The third group is direct motivation: The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins, Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink, Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins, The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do by Amy Morin and Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza. Each has its own style, and some lean more on the author's personal story than on research. Test one idea at a time.
